5 Loaves and 2 Fish

A loving hand of greeting…a hot cup of coffee…engaging conversation…a warm meal…the power of the Word; all to lead lives towards Christ; finding salvation, recovery and restoration.  Thus, Missions Feeding emerged from the need to feed and minister to the least, the last, and the lost.

Located in an at-risk neighborhood of southwest Oklahoma City, God of No Limits in 2016 opened the kitchen and the ministry of 5 Loaves and 2 Fish began. “We offer a hot meal, love, and give hope to those in our community”, shares Rebecca Gordon. She continues, “Labels are lost, and identities reclaimed. Hearts have been opened … a sense of belonging restored. Souls have been saved and healing begun!”.

To date 5 Loaves and 2 Fish has served nearly 50,000 meals and continues to serve every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons. That is 50,000 seeds planted … 50,000 opportunities to speak a name … 50,000 God opened doors to show His kindness and compassion. 50,000 occasions of hope sharing the love of Christ!

Luke 10:23-24 Then He turned to His disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”

Hours upon hours of sacrifice is needed to prepare meals, serve those in need, and clean after each session.  The ministry is led by two lifelong friends, Rebecca Gordon and Kyla Adams.

Sister Gordon, “I was called to missions at the age of 12; continuously praying the Lord would reveal where I was needed. With a simple invite to church, 22 years after accepting my calling, my God given assignment started in November of 2015. Little did I know that through this simple invitation, my purpose would be restored, and my true calling revealed.

With an eagerness in my spirit to serve the Lord and a pot of spaghetti in hand, He sent our neighbors (the homeless) to me. Luke 10:25-37, my heart’s desire and prayer is that I would be the eyes, hands, and feet of Christ. My heart’s desire granted!”

Sister Adams, “I felt the stirring in my spirit to serve the Lord; I was desperately trying to find a way to serve Him. I was leaning on my own understanding of how I was to do so which is never a good thing. In the spring of 2016, the church I attended was in the middle of teaching a Dangerous Prayer series. This particular “dangerous prayer” was Isaiah 6:8, Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I, send me.”

That prayer hit my spirit hard and I decided I would go wherever He sent me, knowing that His plan and purpose were far better than anything I could plan for myself. His plan for me to be set into motion only required my obedience and willingness to go.

Obey and go I did in the summer of 2016, solidifying my place in His body by joining 5 Loaves and 2 Fish. The blessings, healing, and restoration that I have received through this church and missions feeding have been and will continue to be the song in my heart; reach the least, the last, and the lost with the love of Christ through kindness and a warm meal.  Here I am – He sent me!!”
